For the last two years, our school choir has joined the Erasmus plus project “Singing helps living” together with the Estonian school Haabersti Vene Gümnaasium. The aim was the cultural exchange of traditions and songs between two different countries. At the beginning, each choir performed a concert via Skype; then, the two groups hosted each other in their own city: in May the Estonian guys came to Bari and in September we, Italian guys, went to Tallinn.
Certainly, it was a wonderful project, which allowed us to visit a wonderful country, get in touch with a new culture, improve our level of English and, overall, build an extraordinary friendship. We had the possibility to live their life, to attend the same school and to see things from their point of view. We discovered another amazing side of Europe, the Baltic Sea Region: we visited Tallinn, a medieval city which was a major port of the Hanseatic League, and Tartu, a university town situated in a fascinating landscape.
I am sure we won’t easily forget this experience. The special relationship we built with our Estonian friends who hosted us, the teachers who led us in the project and the city of Tallinn itself will belong to us forever.
